Fundamentals of Industrial Hygiene

This course is for you if you are a safety, health and/or environmental professional or manager with industrial hygiene responsibilities but limited training or experience in this area. It's based on the National Safety Council's Fundamentals of Industrial Hygiene technical manual. This course will help you develop an understanding of industrial hygiene principles and practices by examining four key processes - anticipation, recognition, evaluation and control. It is part of the Advanced Safety Certificate series.

Prerequisites: NONE

Who should attend: Gain a working knowledge of industrial hygiene. This course is for you if you are a safety, health and/or environmental professional or manager with industrial hygiene responsibilities but limited training or experience in this area. You'll develop an understanding of industrial hygiene principles and practices by examining four key processes - anticipation, recognition, evaluation and control. You'll also learn when to bring in the help of a qualified/certified industrial hygienist.

Objective: The course focuses on industrial hygiene hazards and controls in general industry. Topics include:
  • Anatomy, physiology and toxicology
  • Chemical hazards (liquids, gases, vapors and particulates)
  • Physical hazards (noise, radiation and thermal stress)
  • Ergonomics
  • Biological hazards
  • Walkthrough surveys
  • Air sampling techniques
  • Noise measurement
  • Ventilation and other engineering controls
  • Personal protective equipment
  • Respiratory protection
  • Safety and health programs/agencies
  • Government standards and voluntary guidelines

Continuing Education Units:
Earn 2.6 CEUs (Continuance of Certification points from the Board of Certified Safety Professionals).

Members: $1,295.00 + tax
Nonmembers: $1,650.00 + tax

Cancellation & Substitution Policy: Pre-registration and payment at the time of registration are required. Cancellations received prior to 3 business days of the event will receive a full refund or issued credit towards an upcoming class to be used within 90 days. Cancellations received less than 3 business days of the event date will receive a credit for the entire fee to be used within 90 days. If not used, this credit will be forfeited. This policy will be enforced without exception. No refunds will be made on uncancelled registrations or no-shows. Substitutions are accepted at any time. We reserve the right to cancel an event due to low enrollment, or other circumstances which would make the event nonviable. If we cancel an event, registrants will be given a full refund.
